- reading: with the treacherous qualifying exam coming up in 2009, I really need to start reading up on the literature on a regular basis.
- running: I have tentatively been convinced (by my UTC athletic partner in crime, Alicia) to begin training for the Country Music (full) Marathon. I have already signed up for the half, and I have until the middle of March to decide if I want to switch over or not. If our training goes as planned, I should be up to full length by then.
- being green: I live 2.5 miles from my lab, with a bus stop two blocks from my front door. I'm going to make an effort to at least once a week ride my bike or take the bus. This will likely be every day once the weather improves, but once a week when it's 20 degrees outside is a good goal for now.
- thinking: as fundamental as this sounds, it's really something I need to improve on scientifically. I'm a great student - I know how to take notes and what to study for a written exam (which is why I have done so well thus far), but I am quite deficient in the ability to think extemporaneously. I don't ask nearly enough questions in class or lab meeting, which can be directly correlated to my inability to think on my feet. This is something I will have to master by this summer in order to get past the qualifying exam, as that is one of the main things they test you for. I have diagnosed my problem "verbal retardation" - a topic I will most certainly post about in future months.
- budgeting: I think the fact that I don't have student loans to pay back has stunted my ability to spend wisely. This isn't saying that I buy unnecessary items, but I would just like to pay more attention to the purchases I make.
- blogging: [speaks for itself]
"There's only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your own self." (Aldous Huxley)
