I really hope it's just preemptive anxiety about my qualifying exam this summer.
To start off the great year, I had my car looked at this morning. It had been making an awful screeching noise on start-up. The new body shop I took it to (near campus, great reviews) told me that the following was wrong with my car:
- there was a nail in the back left tire, leaving it flat, explaining why it had been a bumpy ride (yes, this is something I should have noticed, but since the screeching sound started I have tried to avoid driving)
- the screech on start-up was due to one of the belts (couldn't tell you which one) that was dry and about to go out
- while on the road trying to find out why the screech was occurring, the mechanic saw the 'check engine' light come on; after getting it back to the shop, it was determined my thermostat was shot, further explaining why my car wasn't holding heat (besides the crack in my radiator that was due to the hit & run)
- my right axel is completely worn out and needs to be replaced
I had them repair all but the right axel, and I will take care of that (which costs as much as all other car faults combined) in a month or so. I don't drive that often, so hopefully it'll be alright.
