Last week, I had to lead two small group discussions with the first year students. In order to not look like a moron, this required me to read up on a few things.
Tomorrow, I have an outline due for my class's "final" paper. Basically, we are assigned a specific topic in cell & developmental biology (mine is cell motility) and required to write a 5-page mock grant. So this requires countless hours of reading papers on a topic we are not familiar with to determine what research needs to be done next. I also have our weekly Friday 1-page paper to do.
The week after Thanksgiving I am giving lab meeting (12/03). This is the first time I will present my project to the lab, so I want to make sure it is done well.
The following Monday (12/08) our mock grants are due.
On top of those shenanigans, I am diligently working on this paper that should have been published before I even joined the lab. I could spend about a dozen paragraphs describing why this process sucks, but I'll save you all and just say that I'm convincing myself that this is a "learning experience" - whatever that's worth.
